Scotchshield Ultra S800 is an 8 mil, optically clear safety and security film built from co-extruded micro-layers, which is why it resists tearing rather than simply stretching. Applied to existing glass it retains fragments on impact and is used for safety-glazing code upgrades on annealed glass.
S800 is not bullet-resistant glazing and it does not, by itself, keep a pane in the frame. Forced-entry and blast performance is claimed for tested assemblies: film, a 3M attachment system such as the Impact Protection Attachment, the glass, and the frame. Installing a non-3M attachment voids the film warranty.
The US commercial product warranty runs 12 years, extending to 14 years when installed with a 4-sided 3M attachment system, and includes glass breakage coverage with labor included in the remedy. Care instructions must be followed to keep coverage valid.
