Frosted decorative privacy film on a tall, multi-section stairwell window in a Bethany Beach home, installed to obscure the direct view into the stairwell while preserving softly diffused natural light through the existing glass.
The tall stairwell window brought useful natural light into the landing and stairs, but its clear multi-section glass also created a direct view into the home. The objective was to interrupt that sightline without turning the opening into a dark wall and without replacing the existing glass.
Frosted decorative film is translucent. It scatters light and obscures detail through the pane, so the window continues to brighten the stairwell without preserving a clear line of sight in either direction.
The result obscures direct views in both directions while retaining diffused daylight. Shapes and movement may still register depending on distance, proximity to the glass and lighting on each side because frosted film is not fully opaque.
The glass, frames, seals, hardware and access were inspected; the stairwell and nearby finishes were protected; the panes and frame edges were prepared; and the film was positioned on the wet glass with overlapping squeegee passes before perimeter trimming and final inspection.
The direct view through the stairwell glass is obscured, softly diffused daylight remains, and the existing multi-section window stayed in place. Similar applications include stairwells, landings, bathrooms, entry doors and sidelights, street-facing rooms and selected interior glass.
Frosted film diffuses and obscures the direct view in both directions regardless of which side is brighter. It is translucent rather than fully opaque, so shapes or movement may still register depending on distance and lighting.
