Sunroom Window Tinting in Dagsboro, DE | Seawinds Project

Shore Tint & More completed a 156-square-foot residential window film installation in the Seawinds development in Dagsboro, Sussex County — 3M Night Vision 15 solar-control film on the large side windows and frosted privacy film on the upper transom windows.

Project overview: Seawinds, Dagsboro, Delaware

Location: Seawinds community, Dagsboro, DE 19939. Space: glass-enclosed sunroom / living area. Total glass treated: 156 sq. ft. Main side windows: 3M Night Vision 15 solar-control window film. Upper transom windows: frosted decorative/privacy window film. Installer: Shore Tint & More / Delaware Window Film — 3M Authorized Window Film Dealer.

The room features expansive windows overlooking the property, a tall vaulted ceiling, and narrow transom windows set high above the main glass. Those architectural details create different needs for solar control and privacy at different heights, so the goal was to manage the large side windows differently from the upper transoms rather than darken every pane uniformly.

3M Night Vision 15 on the side windows

The main side-window areas received 3M Night Vision 15, a darker architectural sun-control film designed to reduce excessive glare and incoming solar energy while maintaining a usable view out of the glass during the day. The darker shade also offers more daytime screening from the outside in suitable lighting conditions.

Night Vision 15 is a film shade/product designation, not a promise of a 15% heat reduction. Actual light transmission, glare reduction, and solar-energy performance depend on the film and glazing combination, and reflective or darker film is not guaranteed one-way privacy at night when the interior is brighter than the exterior.

Frosted film on the high transom windows

Above the main window openings, narrow horizontal transom windows near the vaulted ceiling received frosted window film instead of extending the dark solar film all the way to the ceiling. Frosted film's primary role is visual privacy and light diffusion — not maximum heat rejection — so each window section received a material matched to its purpose.

Film and glazing compatibility

A professional recommendation starts with the glass construction, exposure, room use, and homeowner priorities. Existing insulated, tempered, laminated, or coated glass may require different film choices and a compatibility review before installation.

This is a real completed project, not a conceptual before-and-after illustration. No room-temperature measurements, energy-bill savings, or laboratory results are claimed for this specific residence.

Frequently asked questions

Does window tint help reduce sunroom heat in Dagsboro, Delaware?

Solar-control window film can reduce the amount of solar energy passing through suitable glass, which can help with sun-related comfort. Results vary with window direction, existing glazing, shade, and the film selected. No temperature reduction was measured for this Seawinds project.

Can I still see outside through 3M Night Vision 15?

Yes. Night Vision 15 is designed to allow an outward view while substantially filtering daylight, but it creates a noticeably darker appearance than clear glass. The view also depends on daytime and nighttime lighting conditions.

Is Night Vision 15 the same thing as 15% heat rejection?

No. The "15" identifies the film shade/product; it is not a claim that only 15% of solar heat is rejected. Heat-control performance is evaluated using manufacturer specifications for the film and glass together.

Why install frosted film on transom windows?

High transom windows can be difficult to cover with ordinary shades. Frosted film can diffuse the incoming light and limit direct visibility through those panes without covering them with a dark tint.

Can window film be installed on double-pane sunroom windows?

Many double-pane windows can be treated, but the correct film depends on the insulated-glass construction, existing coatings, and thermal-stress compatibility. The glass should be evaluated before installation.

Does dark window film provide privacy after sunset?

Not reliably. When indoor lights are on and it is dark outside, people may be able to see in through solar-control film. Use an appropriate privacy solution or window covering when nighttime privacy is essential.
